As I delved into the world of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, I couldn't help but notice the exceptional voice acting that brought the game's characters to life. The addition of boss fights against larger mechanical enemies (Mecs) added a much-needed layer of depth to the gameplay. These battles required strategic thinking and quick reflexes as players needed to identify and exploit the bosses' weaknesses.

One aspect that initially struck me was the escort mission-style gameplay, where the protagonist, Monkey, is accompanied by Trip, a young woman who is being protected from harm. However, unlike other games with similar mechanics, Enslaved's implementation didn't feel annoying or tedious. Instead, it was surprisingly enjoyable, thanks in part to the AI's limited abilities.

The enemies, while not the most intelligent, had a unique strategy – charging towards Monkey and Trip without much thought. This made for some intense and thrilling battles. The game's platforming and climbing mechanics were also noteworthy, with seamless transitions between platforms and an intuitive sense of movement. I found myself having a blast scaling walls and leaping from rock to rock, feeling like a monkey in the process.

The gameplay in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is undoubtedly some of the best I've experienced in a platformer-action-adventure game. The development team at Ninja Theory, which also created Heavenly Sword, has done an impressive job of crafting a unique and engaging experience.

For those unfamiliar with the source material, Enslaved is based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. While I haven't read the original work, I can attest that the game's story is compelling and well-told. Although it may not be perfect, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is an underrated gem from 2010 that is definitely worth checking out – especially for fans of action-adventure games with a strong narrative focus.
